Basic information about the Department of Central Banking and Financial Intermediation The Department of Central Banking and Financial Intermediation functions within the structures of the Institute of Finance of the Faculty of Economics and Sociology of the University of Łódź.

1 October 2006 - Rector's Order 89/2006 established the Department of Central Banking and Money Market.

since 1 October 2012 - Rector's Order 18/2012 under the name of the Department of Central Banking and Financial Intermediation (KBCIPF).

The Head of the Department is dr hab Iwona Dorota Czechowska, Prof. UŁ.

The subject matter of interest of the staff of the Department of Central Banking and Financial Intermediation revolves around finance, but is very broad and varied.

In terms of subject matter:

  1. commercial and central banking,
  2. public finance, behavioural finance, corporate finance,
  3. money and capital markets.

In terms of subjects:

  1. buyers and sellers (issuers, investors, small and medium-sized enterprises, health care entities, individuals, especially those aged 60+),
  2. financial intermediaries (banks, insurance companies, investment funds, SKOKs, leasing and factoring companies.
  3. financial advisers, credit intermediaries, bancassurance participants.

We consider the most up-to-date topics to be topics such as:

  1. corporate social responsibility,
  2. pro-consumer developments in the financial market, protection of consumer interests (BFG)
  3. the social and ethical context of banking activities (excessive interest rates, excessive debt, responsible lending).

Within the macroeconomic approach, we are interested in the sustainability and evolution of the mechanisms of financial markets, the impact of monetary policy on the economy. We address issues concerning the impact of central bank policy on the stability of the financial system, the coordination of monetary and fiscal policy (policy mix). The instruments and their effectiveness used in monetary policy by the central bank are also analysed.

Within the microeconomic approach: the impact of foreign direct investment in Poland, the competitiveness of the Polish economy, mechanisms of influencing clients of financial markets (rationalisation of budget revenues), evaluation of the performance of investment funds (index and active), analysis of investors' preferences, risks and inclinations (how to design adequate financial products) and the importance of behavioural factors in financial decisions, (how to match products to investors' needs and preferences).
